Monday, June 24th, two new bovine arrived at Abundance Garfield. Our new friend Gerry arrived with his wife and four children to deliver a stanchion, two milking buckets, a vacuum pump, claw with silicone parts, vacuum gauge, harness, and five-year-old Blessing and her 7 month old heifer Caramel.
Gerry had Blessing AI'd before delivering her, offering an excellent price for everything, hence her name commemorating Gerry's family's kindness. We were surprise at her decrease in milk production from 2.5 gallons per milking in the morning to, essentially none. We will be milking her tomorrow morning (June 29th) if all goes well after having Caramel separated over night; it seems like her hormones are back to normal after the Lutalyse (prostaglandin) shot. We made pie-shaped paddocks, so the heifers can be together and cows together.
