Occurred over the week of 10/27-11/2/19
Dad rented an excavator and for one busy week totally transformed the large (originally the stallion pasture) ground piece into a terraced and graveled place. Also, he leveled the front yard and behind the house and to the east of the house, over top of the septic tank. He also dug a sort of pond thing down at the bottom of the property. The top picture is a picture taken from the top of the road looking down, the house is to the right and unseen in the picture, the top right picture is a picture of the graveled drive way, the road is up on the left, the picture below this text is before the gravel and clearly shows some of the terracing, the picture to the right of it is a view from near the front door showing the front yard, and the big picture second to the bottom picture shows the east side, over top of the septic tank, and the very bottom is a view of the back of the house just before it was completely leveled.

The Porch-Ashleigh

We poured concrete cylinders underneath the four big posts, and with a lot of two by sixes we made a pretty deck with Trex decking. Eventually we put a railing up on the top part, and the upstairs leads out onto the deck with a beautiful view.

The South-Facing Foundation Wall-Ashleigh

We poured the south facing wall's foundation before Jamin White had spray foamed the rest of the crawlspace. This foundation part was our first big pouring concrete job and it was not perfect. We had several leaks, and it took much longer than expected, but eventually we got it done!

Picture
Dad and Papa built a 'concrete directing' machine that would pour directly into the form of the foundation. The dug out trench, as shown in the first picture, was impossible to pour from, so this elongated contraption, with the mixer sitting up on the bank, was very handy.

We have had this little ferret Rascal for almost a year. He is from our aunt and uncle, and we are ferret sitting him for them. He has been a delight to us all, and we grow sad as the departure of Rascal comes nearer.

Transitioning - Ashleigh

We ran out of time and resources to finish the house this year, so we are coming back to Moscow. This could be beneficial, because Dad can then focus on his PhD, and we kids can then continue with our homeschool. So we took all the bedding and clothes home and other things, and washed them. Then we set up bed in Moscow, and cleaned up the house and arranged stuff, and now we are living in the Moscow house. We still go out every day, but one kid stays with Dad while all the rest go home with Mom for the night. We will continue going out to Garfield for the next two weeks, and after that we will stay in Moscow. Our cow will be going out to my Aunt's house, and we still don't know what to do with our kittie Speckles. But I will still be glad to be in Moscow because the house is warm and I can't wait to play in the snow again here!

The Family Meeting - Ashleigh

Every morning (if possible) Dad gets the whiteboard and the marker and we all sit down after a refreshing morning milk drink and talk about what the projects are for that day. We also cross off items that have been done the day before. Sometimes we have a fire going since it is cold in the morning at seven o clock. The meeting generally takes between ten to forty five minutes.

The Fort in the tree - Ashleigh

Isaiah and Kellen have long wished to have a fort in the tree adjacent to the shed. Isaiah started on his, but one day Dad and our friend Scott decided to help build it. Dad helped Isaiah build his and Scott helped Kellen with his fort. And now, two cool, awesome forts have their place in the tree, much to the satisfaction of all the kids.

A Bedroom in Use - Ashleigh

Sleeping on the trampoline has been fun but it is getting a little cold. Clear one room in the house, bring some cots and blankets, and viola, a bedroom in the house has been put to use. It will be so much warmer, as the dew will not take our body heat away, and it will be fun to sleep in the house for the first time. The picture to the right is before the clearing, the bottom picture is after.

A Feeder for Delight - Ashleigh

We got some alfalfa hay, and throwing it on the ground for Delight meant she stepped on it and fertilized it. So Mom and I took an old bathtub down there and put the hay in it. With her head she threw it out, making no improvement. Dad then determined to make a feeder so that she could not throw it with her head. On top of the bathtub he built the structure, with sheet metal on top to keep the rain off, and she now cannot throw the hay out.

Big gloves, Sailor, Carpenter? - Ashleigh

8/3/2018

Some boards need waterproofed, and three little boys are willing to help. For $10, a gallon of blue paint primer is the best deal. It's almost dark, but painting is fun. One to flip the boards with big blue gloves (Joseph), one to make touch-ups with the brush (Joshy), and one to paint with the roller (Kellen). Waterproofing is an important job. A night and a half day finishes the boards, with a little help from me. A little paint on boots, pants (or overalls) and hands is the outcome, but the adorable boys don't care. Painting in the dark! How fun!
